Who says no one is into women's soccer?  Check out the distraught reaction of this fan when the player from Guinea  chuffs a sure goal.  Send that guy some prozac.

Dramatic pictures from the flooding north of us in Saskatchewan in Canada.  Below is the Souris River crossing Highway 9.

Below is the Oxbow/Alameda area of Saskatchewan.   The flooding is just as bad north of the border, although we rarely hear of it.   Thanks to this site and this site for the pictures.

Trouble brewing...

Mondays, they're like that.

Some people just can't wait, they just gotta do it all right now.  I wonder how this sounds to the person on the other end of the phone call?

Hey look, honey, I found a little one.  Think we could take it home and tame it?

This dude is the boss of the savanna.

This looks like fun.  Somehow, I gotta find some time for vacation.

Saturday porch pictures.

This stuff above looks pretty cool, if a bit tangled.  The guy who does it has a website here.  Check it out.

An amateur fossil hunter in Florida recently discovered this carving of a mammoth on an bone, and it has now been authenticated and dated at about 13,000 years ago.   It is also the very first depiction of a mammoth found in North America.  How cool is that?  And what are the chances that something some dude carved that long ago would survive and then be found again?

An angry man creates Swedish smörgåstårta....and it is good!  Via Clusterflock, and apparently David's brother in law.

Top Gear Reliant Robin

This clip is a classic example of why Top Gear is so much fun to watch, whether you are into cars in any way or not.  I found myself guffawing out loud multiple times while watching this, and the use of English here is highly entertaining as well.  Full size it in your screen, let it load and have fun.
Bear Tooth Pass, Northern Wyoming, on June 16th.  Now that is a snow pack, and the foundation for a brand new glacier!

Eight million gallons are drained out of an Oregon reservoir after a jobless, drunken man is caught peeing in it.   Brilliance on the part of both parties.
This makes me feel like drit!

These two were bored this afternoon.  It was a warm summer evening, and the daughters asked to go up to a nearby gold rush town not too far from our house known as Sutter Creek.  As we were indeed free today, we loaded up the car and set forth.

Shortly were were there, and were enjoying the Victorian architecture, the touristy shops, and the general atmosphere. If you can find the time to notice, there are all sorts of interesting details in these little towns.

This below is a picturesque corner at Highway 49 and Keyes Street.

Knight Foundry was a gold rush born business that created much of the mining machinery that the miners needed to dig out the gold.  Their most useful item was the Pelton wheel, which was used to transform water power to electrical energy.  The foundry actually survived as a going business until the nineteen nineties, and even today is a very interesting tourist attraction, well worth the time to stop and visit.

Windows and reflections on Main Street.

The modest little city hall in Sutter Creek, with the bell tower out front.

All and all, a fun afternoon with the two girls.
This afternoon, after our adventures in the gold country, we decided to go to dinner at a little Italian restaurant near Jackson called Theresa's.  It is a one of a kind place that has been in business since 1921, located on Jackson Gate road a ways outside of town.

The girls eagerly went inside, and are here waiting for the calamari with anticipation.

Classic Italian fare, ravioli. It was a fine dinner, savored at a restaurant with great history and atmosphere.

Wandering about Jerusalem, Kutiman filmed these musicians, then did a masterful editing job in producing this delightful video.

Hat tip here.
The girls asked for bacon and sausage this morning, so I told them to go get whatever eggs they could find down in the coup, and then I got to cooking.  This is the result.  What a way to start a sunny, warm early summer Saturday.

And to any scold who wants to complain about the healthiness of this breakfast, I would remind that at most this is a once a week option.  Furthermore, no matter how hard you try,  life is going to be shorter than you might like, so I say, eat what you want (at least once and a while) and die like a man!
