And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Summertime porch ecstasy circa the early 1950's in Paterson, NJ: Fire flies, sweet brief wafts of cooking and foliage smells, short neighborly hellos, dad and friends sipping Ballantine beer from 12 oz. bottles, women gabbing, sipping lemonade and using hand-held fans to keep cool. Moving along the mosquitoes with short flicks of the fans watching us "youngins" tossing balls in the street and lighting sparklers on the front lawn.
