The ponies escape

  1. Breaking free from the merry-go-round of life is exceptionally difficult. It's like taking off the suit of clothes that you wore all of your life (most people that they believe they are their clothes) to look at what's actually underneath.

  2. A long time ago, when the world was new (for me, at least-) there was a Merry-Go-Round down at the pier on the beach. It had brass rings; if you could catch 3 brass rings, you got a free ride.

It took me several rides to get 3 rings. It wasn't easy; you had to get the all on one ride. Finally I managed to do it, and then I got my free ride! I can still feel the wave of pride I got from that achievement. It felt wonderful! I was on top of the world!

Years later I visited that same pier. The Merry-Go-Round was still there, but no longer offered the brass rings.

When I asked, I was told it was because of liability; if someone fell while trying to get a brass ring, the Merry-Go-Round could be sued. Sigh.

I don't much like our brave new safe world. Dodge Ball was my favorite game in elementary school too; gone, all gone.

Run away, MerryGoRound horses! Run fast, and far! Find the land of the brass rings! Don't ever come back to this sad safe land. We don't deserve you.
