  2. The red and white checkerboard on the cowling denotes a Polish Squadron. RF is the squadron marking for No. 303, of Battle of Britain fame.

    Those are Mk V Spitfires,probably the 'b' version. The thin yellow ring around the roundel dates the pic from the middle of '42 or later.
